Innovative Algae Technology

for Biomass Production

Algae rapidly build up biomass that can be used for the production of both food/feed and biofuels, therefore it can play an important role in solving the food vs. biofuel problem.

Founded in April 2008, AlgMax GmbH with headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, develops, commercialises and markets technologies for the production and usage of biomass from algae grown in closed systems. The algae strains are not genetically modified.

Contrary to other algae technologies, such as open ponds or photobioreactors, our innovative technology using closed tanks requires much less land to grow the algae.

The biomass produced with AlgMax technology can be used in various areas, such as

  • Sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2): Algae are well suited for the sequestration of carbon dioxide, as this is absorbed by the algae as it grows.
  • Raw material for biogas plants: The algae biomass can be used in biogas plants as a raw material for the generation of electricity in combined heat and power (CHP) plants.
  • Biodiesel from algae oil: The oil contained in the algae is used for the produciton of biodiesel.
  • Food and feed application: After extracting the algae oil the remaining protein rich algae biomass can be used as an excellent food and feed.

AlgMax is in the commercialisation phase and is looking for additional investors to market the technology on a global scale.
